About Chandrashila trek
3 km above Tungnath Mahadev Temple is the peak of Tungnath Mahadev, which is known as Chandrashila. The height of Chandrashila Peak height is 3690 m (12110 ft) above sea level.
From Chandrashila Peak one gets divine views of Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak, Chaukhamba, Bandarpunch. Many great stories are associated with this place.
One of which is the main one, Lord Shri Ram meditated on the top of Chandrashila after defeating Ravana. According to another great story, it is believed that Lord Dev Chandra did penance here.
Chandrashila trek
Chandrashila peak is 6 km away from Chopta. Meaning you will get 6 km of the walking route for trekking. While trekking from Chopta, you will find Tungnath Temple (the highest Shiva temple in the world) in the middle.
After which the peak of Chandrashila starts after walking 3 km upwards. Chandrashila Trek is not very long but the trek is difficult due to the steep climb. Chandrashila Trek can be done throughout the year, but due to more snowfall during the winter season, this trek becomes more difficult.

How to reach Chandrashila peak
To reach Chopta Tungnath, you should not resort to Google Map from Rudraprayag, but take the help of a good guide. Because Google Map can also take you to other Chopta of Rudraprayag.
By road- Buses are easily available from Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun to Rudraprayag. After that you can take a local taxi till Ukhimath. But there is no car facility from Ukhimath to Chopta. So it would be better to hire a taxi from Rudraprayag to Chopta and enjoy the journey.
By train- Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Chopta, which is 209 km away from Chopta. Rishikesh railway station is connected to almost all the national rail routes of India. From Rishikesh railway station you can book bus or taxi to reach Chopta.
By Air- Jolly Grant Airport is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, 226 km from Chopta. After this you can easily reach Chopta with the help of taxi or bus.
