About Kedarnath Temple

Shri Kedarnath Temple is a famous temple located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Kedarnath Dham is known as a famous Shiva temple. This temple has the idol of the 5 faces of Lord Shiva.  

Situated in Rudraprayag district, this temple is situated in the lap of the Himalayas. Being surrounded by the Himalayas all around, the Shri Kedarnath temple looks more attractive. Kedarnath Dham is the most famous of the Char Dham Yatra. 

Due to the cold weather, the favorable season to visit Kedarnath Dham is between the months of April to October. The Kedarnath temple is completely built with stones and it is believed that it was built in the Pandava dynasty. Later, Adi Sankaracharya got this temple completely repaired.

The history of Kedarnath itself tells a very big story. It is believed that if you travel to Badrinath Dham without visiting Kedarnath Dham, then that journey is considered unsuccessful. Life is freed from sins by the darshan of Nar Narayan idol of Kedarnath Dham.  

No one knows when and how many years ago the Kedarnath temple was built, but for the last one thousand years, Kedarnath Dham has been the main center of pilgrimage.  

If historians are to be believed, Kedarnath Dham was built by Pandavas which was later adopted by Adi Shankaracharya.  The priestly Brahmins were selected for worship and are worshiped by them even today.  Arrangements have also been made for the stay of the devotees in front of the Kedarnath temple.


Worship's time of Kedarnath Dham

The darshan of Lord Shiva begins at 6 am.  A special puja is organized in the evening from 3 to 5 pm.  Aarti of Lord Shiva is held regularly from 7:30 to 8:30 at night.  Kedarnath Temple is closed for Tatkal timings at 8:30. 

 After the doors of Kedarnath Dham are closed due to snowy weather in the month of October-November, the five-faced statue of Lord Shiva is brought to Ukhimath, where it is regularly worshiped by Brahmins.

Worship in the temple has great importance. Some of the main pujas famous in Kedarnath Dham are as follows - 

Kalik Puja, Parvati Maa Worship, Laghu Rudrabhishek, Pandava Puja, Mahabhishek Puja, Ganesh Puja, Shri Bhairav ​​Puja, Shiva Sahasranama, Shodashopchar Puja.
